Maria Wolfsberger is a Yoga teacher, actress and model. She lives and works between Vienna and Porto.
In Katonah Yoga we do love a right angle, a good metaphor and a 360° vision. Maria teaches a hybrid of fluid movement, pranayama, and meditation, providing a practical framework for self study and present moment awareness. With Katonah Yoga being a main ingredient, she aims for a well rounded practice – to be grounded in the body, spacious in the breath and expansive in the imagination. Her classes transcend the mere concept of a workout, serving the community, potentiating joy and longevity, and finding friends in the process eventually.
Playing well pumps the spirit – her goal is to share the tools for wellness so people can be self-sufficient. With options comes empowerment. If one has the power of their own health they can be autonomous, manipulating life in a good way. It is joyful to be powerful. One can become the magician and mediator of their own life. To recognize and reorganize. To be stable, able and imaginative. For her that's the game of yoga - having all the tools and techniques, and knowing how and when to play them. Because Yoga works. She promises.
Her movement background includes Yoga Alliance E-RYT 200 Hour, as well as Budokon Yoga, Budokon Mobility and Katonah Yoga®, incorporating training with Tomislav English, Winston Reynolds and Kim Amankwaa. Continuing to learn from her teachers, such as Abbie Galvin, Dages Juvelier Keates, Josie Schweitzer, Cameron Shayne and Melayne Shayne, has been profoundly transformative for her. Maria teaches in English, but her mother tongue is German.
Life forms us. We are form. The nature of form is to deform. The beauty of form is reformation. With a good technique and a well oriented mind we can reinform our form, up our function and play for equilibrium.
Playing the trinity of body, mind and breath is one of the biggest games in Yoga. It helps us stay present. We are not just a doing body and a thinking mind, we are everything together. In Katonah Yoga we enter our psychology through our physiology by means of language, imagination and metaphor. One of the biggest metaphors in Katonah Yoga is seeing the body as a house. Our house. The goal of the practice becomes to maintain this house — tidying it up, airing it out, regulating the temperature, because a house that functions is a joy to live in. So, enjoy it. Live in it. Love in it.
Katonah Yoga® is a syncretic, ever evolving Hatha based practice developed by Nevine Michaan over 45 years ago. It blends elements of Chinese medicine, taoist theory, geometry, mythology, imagination and metaphor, designed to enhance personal and communal well being.
Within the practice we explore material like asana as origami, the 3x3 magic square, or manipulating form for function. Mapping ourselves in time and space helps us not only recognize internalized patterns but also see everything around us while staying well-adjusted. Through time, technique, and repetition, we can inform and reform. We can become stable, able, and imaginative. About Katonah Yoga
